After Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, even Porn websites ending Flash support and switching to HTML5
After being exposed for multiple vulnerabilities and zero-days, Adobe’s Flash has become a big pain in the ass for websites. Mozilla and Google had already announced that they will kill support to Flash on Firefox and Chrome respectively. Now even porn websites are starting to rely on HTML5 and ditch Flash to avoid data breaches.
For ages, security researchers have been finding vulnerabilities and zero-days in Flash which expose users to cyber attacks. However, porn websites continued to rely on Flash for multimedia content. Now porn websites have started to ditch the aging software and have started opting for HTML5, the newest version of web language that offers wider support for multimedia content.
The big daddy of porn websites, Pornhub recently announced that it would be ending support to Flash and will soon shift to HTML5. It’s to be noted that another porn site, Brazzers, had recently hacked by unknown hackers who leaked about 800,000 accounts.
“It was just a matter of time until we switched, as HTML5 is becoming the standard across platforms. Now makes the most sense as Google and Firefox are slowly pushing Flash support out of their browsers. Plus HTML5 has improved security, better power consumption and it’s faster to load,” Corey Price, vice president of Pornhub, told Motherboard in an email.
As is the norm where smaller websites follow Google, other porn websites are expected to follow Pornhub and switch to HTML5 by 2017. Right now, leading porn websites like xHamster, YouPorn and RedTube still offer multimedia content in Flash.
Adobe has been trying hard to salvage its once flagship multimedia product but looks like age has caught onto Flash and it is slowly going to fade away into darkness.
